Dr. Vásquez-León’s research interests include environmental and maritime anthropology; political ecology; social vulnerability to climate and environmental change; grassroots development and collective organization; and social and environmental justice. Her aim is to conduct work that is receptive to local conditions, aware of the local impact of global processes, and capable of proposing relevant alternatives in collaboration with local communities. She has conducted most of her work with fishing and/or agricultural communities in Mexico, Paraguay, Brazil, and Colombia. She has also worked in the US Southwest with Hispanic farmers and farmworkers.
